@PiinkLiiLAngel technically yes. however, you can beat the game w/out getting star coins and stuff. on the main menu once you have just beat the game (Without getting all the star coins and stuff0, you will see one star next to that file. Unlock all levels, and you will see two (this includes secret levels and cannons and stuff.). Get all the star coins and you will see three stars.
Once you’ve beat the game with one star, try going for three.

@PinkLiilAngel One more thing: once you’ve beaten the game with one star, you can save at any point, any time (Well, at the world main screen.) With two stars, you can access any Toad House infinite amount of times (with the exception of the ones you get when the last two digits in the remaining time of a level are the same). I’m not sure what you get with three.

@JayTrakks u r able to save after each tower/castle. if u use star coins to open up paths marked by star coin signs (on overworld), you can save then too. when u finish the game and play again on the same file, u can save whenever u want. oh and congratulations, the game is worth your time!
